lab title

AND’s Laboratory is the cornerstone of our development work.  Participants use it to develop their own work, be it in the form of a play, solo show, improv, stand-up act, song, musical or cabaret.  Artists start by bringing in their ideas to Anything Goes open rehearsals where they get constructive feedback from a peer group.  When ready, a piece moves to Works-in-Progress or Plays-in-Progress where it receives its first exposure to an audience.  Pieces go back and forth between different developmental units until ready for a staged reading or rough draft production.  Our goal is to help the artist develop each piece to the point at which it is ready for full production.

open rehearsals

At Anything Goes open rehearsals, all types of performance projects are launched and/or developed.

Solo artists and performing groups present, practice or even improvise portions of evolving pieces.

Writers present scenes from new plays, screenplays, and sketch shows (actors are available to read).

Improv troupes practice current formats and try out new ones.

Actors and singers practice audition material.

Anything goes.

ALL ARE WELCOME.

Guided, constructive peer feedback is available (and always optional). Check the calendar for upcoming Anything Goes open rehearsals.

  Works in Progress

An important ingredient in the development of any performance work is the audience.  WIP is a chance for performers to test run their work in front of friends and peers.  Mostly work presented at WIP will have been explored in AG rehearsals.  WIP includes solo and group performers, such as actor/writers, stand-up, performance artists, musicians, clowns, cabaret artists, story tellers, improv and sketch groups.

    Plays in Progress

Similar to WIP in that it may be a first outing in front of an audience for a completed play as a staged reading.  Generally plays seen in these readings will have been worked scene by scene in the AG open rehearsals.  PIP often is an author’s chance to see the complete work to better enable him/her to assess how well it hangs together!

    Full Productions

Our ultimate goal for any work.  Full plays, solo shows, cabaret and sketch are a few examples of work that may be presented in full production.  The level of each production is based on the needs of the piece.  Full productions are initiated by participants of  AG, WIP, PIP and AND on Stage.
